My husband and I did a 2 night self supported bike ride around Lake Cayuga and on our 2nd night we stayed with Aurora MainStays... Aurora is a lovely small village right on Lake Cayuga and we loved staying at Aurora MainStays.

There's plenty to see and do in Aurora and the surrounding areas, and many of them are are a short drive from our properties.
Cayuga Lake is the longest and widest of New York's Finger Lakes. It's over 38 miles long, has an average width of 1.7 miles, and covers 43,000 acres. The lake is a popular location for recreational activities, including fishing, boating, and swimming.
Over 90 species of fish populate the lake. Sport fish include lake trout, rainbow trout, brown trout, largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, northern pike, and Atlantic salmon. The lake is stocked annually with lake trout, brown trout, and Atlantic salmon. It's tributaries are stocked with rainbow trout.
Around here, the most convenient lake access is Long Point State Park, just a mile down the road from Aurora, off Route 90. The park has a swimming area, a stone-covered beach, a playground and picnic area, a docking area, and a boat launch.
The Finger Lakes area has numerous excellent wineries and vineyards. The Cayuga Lake area alone has over two dozen unique wineries, with 16 of them included in the world-famous Cayuga Lake Wine Trail.
With so many great wineries and vineyards to visit, it's hard to chose which ones to stop by when time is limited. However, there are a few you want to make a point of stopping by when you're in our area. One of those is Americana Vineyards and Winery, located in an 1820s swing barn, with a rustic, farmhouse look and feel. They're known for excellent dry and semi-dry red and white wines. Another great winery is Sheldrake Point Winery, known for its amazing location on Cayuga Lake's western shore. They have wonderful Reislings, dessert wines, and staff members. And don't miss the chance to visit award-winning Thirsty Owl Wine Company, also on Cayuga Lake's western shore. Besides excellent wines, they also have serve great burgers and sandwiches.
For more information on wineries and vineyards in our area, give us a call. We'll be glad to make suggestions and recommendations.
